Overview
This easy four-wheel-drive road not only makes a significant connection between the main Yankee Hill trail and Miners Gulch in the Yankee Hill 4x4 trails network above Central City, Colorado, it also provides a pleasant and relaxing drive through beautiful aspen groves and pine forest. It would be particularly lovely in the fall with the abundance of aspen along the trail. Like most of the roads in the Yankee Hill network, Freeman Gulch Cutoff owes its existence to the widespread mining that took place in the area in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Although no significant ruins remain on this trail, it was an important link in the web of roads that serviced the mines and communities in the area.
