The South Fork Lake Creek Trail is the main access route from Independence Pass into the Red Mountain Area. This route follows the South Fork of Lake Creek Drainage to its headwaters, and the motorized portion of the route ends at the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Boundary. Several additional side trails depart from this main route along the way. These trails include Sayres Gulch, McNasser Gulch, and Peek-A-Boo Gulch. The route is accessible for high-clearance 4x4 vehicles with a low range. Private property borders the first 1.5 miles of the road, but many dispersed campsites are available after that point.
