Overview

A place once called home by mountain men, miners, explorers and trappers; Hahn's Peak is steeped in history. Hahn’s Peak, namesaked after Joseph Hahn, was a gold prospector from the mid-1800s. The roads in this area are remnants of the old mining operations. Although mining claims are still active on the mountain, you will not see much activity during your visit. Instead, the area is enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, campers and off-roaders. With thick, mature aspen tree groves filling the hillsides, you can still find “gold” on Hahn’s Peak each fall and makes for a great leaf-peeping trail. Because Hahn's Peak is the solitary, prominent volcanic peak west of the Zirkel Wilderness, the views available during your visit are splendid.
