Metcalf Creek climbs from Avon, Colorado, to Waypoint 10 of Red & White Mountain. The trail features challenging rock shelves as it passes through a dense, beetle-kill pine forest. There are hundreds of downed trees along the trail. The USFS does a commendable job keeping the trees cut, but they leave dozens of tree trunks very close to the trail that will challenge wider vehicles. Just in case, bring a saw! A couple of meadows near the bottom offer views of Beaver Creek ski resort to the south. There are a couple of nice campsites.
