Caves, hidden coves with firepits, wildflowers, and sightseeing are a few features this trail offers just north of Logan, Utah. Cedar Ridge in Hyde Park Canyon is a gorgeous 3-mile loop that is best run counter-clockwise, heading into the canyon and then left onto Cedar Ridge. A gate marks the beginning of the county Hyde Park Canyon Road, which traverses private property. For this reason, staying on the road when past this gate is essential to keep Hyde Park Canyon open to the public. After the gate is an open area with many offshoot trails and the main county road leading into the canyon. Continue straight through the offshoots, and you will reach a point when the trail begins to climb in elevation and eventually turns around to ride across Cedar Ridge. After you crest the ridge and take in the scenic mountain views, you will encounter the two most difficult parts of the trail. Before you leave the cover of the trees, the trail will split into two rocky sections, the right (west) side of the trail has the most significant drop-off, and the alternate route on the left (east) side has a few smaller drops before it meets back up with the main trail. The most challenging part of this trail is the last very steep decline back onto the county road you entered on. The hill is full of loose gravel with a few large rock obstacles. This steep stint is particularly difficult if you run this route in a clockwise fashion and take on the hill first, requiring lockers, aired-down tires, and experience behind the wheel.
There is no camping on this trail.
