If you’ve ever driven past a mining quarry and thought, “That would make for some fun wheeling,” you aren’t alone. Back in 2009 someone else had the same thought and created Northwest OHV Park. Just 90 minus northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, this offroad playground was developed from the remains of a desolate, sprawling rock quarry.
One of the few offroad parks within the giant state of Texas, Northwest OHV Park is 300 acres of city owned and operated land. It consists of 25 miles of trails, providing days worth of OHV riding for dirt bikes, ATVs, UTVs, and full-size vehicles. The park has good beginner trails and plenty of hardcore trails but is very thin when it comes to those mid-level trails. Northwest OHV Park offers a mix of challenges, such as mud pits, rock crawls, steep inclines, and massive limestone ledges. There are a select few longer, mild trails within the park, but overall this is a Texas offroad park best suited for Texas- sized builds. The majority of trails are relatively short, consisting of one or two large obstacles and plenty of opportunities to find your vehicle’s tipping point or your motor’s drowning point.
Northwest OHV Park is open on weekends year-round, but park hours vary depending on the time of year. Amenities at the park include restrooms, picnic areas, and even designated dry camping.
