I run without doors or use half doors quite often and have been very cautious with my valuables when stepping into a store. Because of this, I have been looking for a solid security solution. After research, I chose the Tuffy Deluxe Security Deck Enclosure for the JK Wrangler, it appears to answer all my storage needs. The box is designed to enclose a large amount of gear, which I carry, as well as protect it from the elements.
The delivery box is huge and really heavy. It would be tough to transport in anything besides a pickup truck. It was packaged very well and everything was in one box.
There are not a lot of parts to assemble and the instructions are pretty straightforward. The steel pieces are solid and the black powder coating should help with the durability.
Assembling the main box was made very easy because of the supplied twist knob hardware. There were a couple other small screws for the subwoofer delete panel but basically a very simple process to assemble the main box.
Once the box is built it gets bolted to the supplied support brackets that attach to the floor factory seatbelt mounts.
After putting on the weather seals, the large lid gets placed on top with the slider wheels going into their grooves. The box becomes surprisingly ridged once the lid is attached. The lid slides and lifts easy enough.
The box appears very secure and it feels very solid with the lid closed. The rear seal against the tailgate was near perfect.
Once the tailgate is locked, everything is protected very well. I took it out on a nearby washboard road to test for rattles and I have to say I was surprised that it was completely silent.
I will also admit that I will have to rethink how I pack for my next trip. But I will trade that for the ability to comfortably store my camping and photography gear while traveling or just stopping for dinner along the way.
