If you have a 4x4 vehicle and are planning to vehicle or tent camp at Tick Ridge Campground and looking for a scenic backway to the campground, trail 29 is exactly what you are looking for. This Hatfield-McCoy trail is listed as a green trail per the Park's measurement, but the steep and rough terrain is harder than some blue-labeled trails. The road surface has a lot of flat, protruding rock, and the road is generally only 1 to 1.5 vehicles wide, which keeps your speed fairly slow. This trail has great rock formations and some of the best views of any trail in the Cabwaylingo State Forest trail system.
Cabwaylingo has two campgrounds and multiple cabins located on-site. In addition, many home rentals can be found nearby.
Hatfield-McCoy Trails are open 365 days a year, from sunup to sundown. Permits are required for all operators and passengers. Additionally, all drivers and passengers must wear a helmet on the trails. This includes full-size vehicles such as Jeeps.
