Overview

Once a household item, The Old Dutch Cleanser was an item you could find at almost any store or home. Used to clean everything from sinks to stoves to tubs, this pumicite cleaning agent was the most popular scrubbing agent at the time. Today the Dutch Cleanser Mine, closed back in 1947, is a step back in history when the owners of the mine seemingly disappeared overnight. As you travel up the road to the mine, you will be surprised by how much of the pumicite was left behind. If you are daring, you can enter the mine and explore the many shafts of which are still full of the pumicite and materials used to mine it.
