One of the more challenging trails in Death Valley, Steel Pass connects you to Saline Valley by going up and over the hills from Eureka Sand Hill. Where the canyon narrows are several ledges and a waterfall that you have to go over. An experienced driver or spotter will help the newer and less rock crawling experienced drivers through the obstacles. At the top of the canyon, the trail enters a large flat open area with plenty of places to relax, camp, spin tall tales, and enjoy this remote and rugged landscape. Most people camp at Eureka Sand Dune on the north side or at the hot springs in Saline Valley on the south side. But, if you are running out of daylight, there are plenty of places to pull off the trail up in the pass flat area.
